Weight Loss

# 79 Achieving Your Weight-Loss Goals: Small Steps, Big Changes
lecture/cooking lab/partial participation

Getting healthy and achieving your weight loss goals takes work, but it might be easier than you think. Join life coach, doctor of physical therapy, loser ---of 230 pounds! ---and former stand-up comic, Dr. Russ L'HommeDieu, as he discusses why traditional diet plans only work in the short- term; the role of fats, carbs, proteins, and fiber; and how to establish healthy habits a little at a time so they don't overwhelm and send us back to familiar unhealthy behaviors. In fact, they can lead to further positive changes. As we eat better, we feel better; as we feel better, we move better. The effects are cumulative and ultimately transformational.

In the second half of this class, the kitchen will be our laboratory. We'll dissect a core soup recipe, analyzing what each ingredient adds to the dish in terms of flavor, nutrition, and calories. We'll survey a variety of vegetables, grains, beans, spices and other potential add-ins to see what each of them will bring to the mix. Finally, consciously choosing our ingredients, and with the "base" soup for comparison, we'll construct three different versions, tracking the small but important changes that each addition brings to the whole.

Russ's method isn't about achieving perfection, it's about getting better and being kind to yourself while doing it. Join him for a life-altering good time! (Alight meal will be served.)
